“What Am I Going to Do?”

For more than 15 years, Tanya had a stable career in finance. Then, in the blink of an eye, everything changed.

“Right before my son started kindergarten, he was diagnosed with autism and ADHD. At the same time, I got laid off,” Tania said.

Suddenly, Tanya found herself trying to navigate his needs without the stable income she had relied on. “That sent me into a panic — like, what am I going to do for resources?”

Leaning on family, Tanya moved in with her parents. Her mother has health issues and her father works a bit here and there, so she visits the Food Bank to help contribute to the household.

The food she receives, especially the eggs and fresh produce, help her care for her son. “I try to put as much nutrients in his food as I can,” she said.

Looking back, Tanya never imagined she would be in this position. “I worked so many hours and had good pay.”

Her story is a powerful reminder that hunger can touch anyone — and that even people who have worked their entire lives can find themselves needing help.
